Gabrielle Giffords Shooting and The Right to Bear Arms

A bit different for me, but its something I feel strongly about. The shooting of Democratic Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords is indicative of one of the main problems that modern day USA is facing.

American citizens have the constitutional right to bear arms, a right that is fiercely supported by a huge number of American's and the highly influential NRA.

Surely though, a more important right, and one that should be cherished even more is the right to life, something that has been taken away from numerous people involved in the Giffords incident due to the easy access to guns for individuals in the UK.

It seems madness that these laws remain while huge numbers of people are murdered in the USA every year. If anything good can come of he Giffords situation it is surely that it is time for a change in the law to be considered?

  1. I agree with you wholeheartedly in principle but I fear that nothing will change because the likes of the NRA are so powerful.

So many Americans believe that is one of their fundamental rights to bear arms - as much as it is to live life itself.

It's very sad but we've had Columbine and Virginia Tech and numerous other similar incidents but no changes in this fundamental principle.

I see no change coming because no US government has the will or the strength to stand up to the US gun lobby.
